Summer just blew by us and all that is left is August. I promise there is still a lot of fun events awaiting all of us before Labor Day. Here are “Jim’s Picks” that will fill your calendar before Fall arrives. Let me know which ones you attend and if there are any others you would add to my list.
Blackhawk Plaza’s Friday Night Concert Series – August Lineup: It starts at 7pm and it is FREE. However, if you want a seat get their early. My favorite four bands are scheduled for August: August 8 – ZOO STATION – U2 tribute band: August 15 – PRIDE & JOY – Timeless pop and soul: August 22 – EVOLUTION – Journey tribute band: August 29 – TAINTED LOVE – Best of the 80’s
Danville Front Street Concerts in the Park: Another great venue for summer FREE concerts. It is on the lawn in front of the library on Front Street. Be sure bring a picnic and a blanket and get their early. The concerts are from 6 PM to 8 PM. August 9 – Apple Z: August 23 – California Beach Boys.
Danville’s Hot Summer Nights Car Show: Twice a summer Danville closes off Hartz Avenue for an unforgettable car show. Anyone can enter their car. It is from 4 PM to 9 PM. The last show of the year is Thursday evening, August 14. Schedule a dinner downtown afterwards.
August Dining: Here is where you will find us during August when we are enjoying the world class restaurants in Danville. Piatti’s for Friday night Happy Hour and for lunches and dinner at the Livery. Revel Kitchen is the newest spot in town that is packing the house most days. Peasant & The Pear for fine dining on Hartz Avenue. And, if you want to just hang out at the Blackhawk Plaza there are four restaurants you will find us at. For a great bar scene and great food check out Blackhawk Grille. Our favorite sushi place is the Blue Ginko – get an outdoor table for the best summer experience. For great Mexican food and your favorite Tequila’s check out the Prickly Pear.
Wednesday Night Community Runs: For almost 20 years Forward Motion in Danville is the place to run on Wednesday nights. You will discover up to 50 or more runners of all shapes, sizes and abilities leaving Forward Motion for a community run at 6:30 PM, rain or shine, 52-weeks a year. They have three different levels of running routes each Wednesdays. You will also meet some really nice people.
Hike or Bike Mt. Diablo Any Day In August: I love this mountain that is right in our own back yard. Most people in the East Bay have never set foot on it. Besides being a State park with over 175 miles of trails, it also has a view from the summit where you can see more of the earth’s surface than from any other peak in the world, with only one exception – Africa’s 19,340-foot Mt. Kilimanjaro. Check out the link for the trail maps.
So, this is my list of summer fun for August. What a gift it is to enjoy the quality of life our community delivers all year long. Contact me anytime regarding questions of what to do in the Bay Area. Also let me know if you have any real estate questions. Until next time…Jim Walberg.
