Cycle For Survival – Helping Find Cures For Rare Cancers

Jim Walberg, staff writer for The Bay Area Team

Cycle for Survival is the national movement to beat rare cancers. It is a high-energy indoor team cycling event that has 22 rides across the country in February and March. This is my fifth year leading a team of riders – a 14-bike team of four riders each. Our ride is February 10th in San Francisco at the Equinox Health Club.

I am a “Cancer Thriver”, and this is my fifth year leading The Bay Area Team’s 14-bike team of riders. In the past three years our bike teams have raised over $310,000 to support cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Center. In 2017 the national rides raised over $34 million with 100% of every dollar going to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Center. This year we are working to surpass $400,000 for the amount of donations our team has gathered in the past four years.

Here’s how your gift will make an impact. Fifty percent of people with cancer have a rare cancer. When combined, rare cancers make up approximately half of patients fighting cancer. Rare cancers—such as leukemia, lymphoma, thyroid, ovarian, pancreatic, pediatric and many more—are diseases we all know. These patients often face little to no treatment options because rare cancer research is underfunded. Each of our donors send us the names they want us to include on our “List of Names”. These are the people we are riding for February 10th.

The work that MSK is doing each day has the power to revolutionize how cancer is diagnosed and treated worldwide. Your gifts will be in the hands of doctors and researchers at MSK within six months of this year’s events. There’s no time to waste: with your help, new discoveries will be made each year.

I would be honored to have you as part of my Support Team for my 2018 ride on February 10th. I committed to personally raise $50,000 to help find cures for cancers. I have $11,715 to go. Please donate today and help me spread the word to others who want to help find cures for cancer. Join the battle!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting my 2018 ride. I will never stop my efforts to help find cures for cancer. Until next time…
