JOIN THE BATTLE WITH JIM WALBERG: This year is Jim’s 14th anniversary! In 2001 he was diagnosed with Prostate cancer, and in 2004 he began another life and death battle, with UCSF Medical Center as his “home” for almost five months. Their medical professionals saved his life which has allowed him to live a life with manageable limitations. He is grateful for every day he has as a “cancer thriver”.
What Jim can still do is ride a spin bike. So, on February 21st in San Francisco at the Equinox Health Club, he and his Team will participate in the nationwide event that last year raised over $21 million for cancer research – 100% of the funds are donated for use on over 100 clinical trials and research studies.
MATCHING FUNDS CHALLENGE: A longtime friend of Jim’s let him know that she will match any of his Team donations up to $25,000 between now and February 15th. This means he will have the opportunity to add a total of $50,000 towards cancer research at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center because of this fund matching challenge.
WHY IS JIM RIDING IN CYCLE FOR SURVIVAL? Because there aren’t enough treatment options for patients. There is a critical funding gap in rare cancer research, but Cycle For Survival is changing that. This national event is arming doctors and researchers with finding to discover new and better treatment options so more can beat cancer and again regain living a healthy life as Jim now has.
He is also riding to honor his family and friends who have been touched by cancer. There are over 70 friends and family who have already joined the support of his Team. This group has also provided him over 130 names of those touched by cancer to be added to his Team’s “List of Names” that will be taped to their bike during the ride.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TODAY? Donate to his ride to support lifesaving research. Remember, every dollar donated will be matched up to $25,000! Together we can make an extraordinary difference. Please join the battle. Thank you from The Bay Area Team!
