It has been my HONOR and privilege to have the opportunity to serve through Rotary and be associated with inspirational people like you. I have grown personally over the years in positive ways I could not have imagined by observing and working with people that are humble in their service and unselfish in their contributions to our community – locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. I am not alone in my regard for Rotary and its members. Recently, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation made a matching grant to Rotary International in the amount of 100 million dollars to help finish the job of eradicating polio. It was extremely generous and shows that they also hold Rotary in high regard. They did indicate that we had to match it, but told us to start using the money immediately. Talk about faith!! Since the mid 80’s Rotary, along with the World Health Organization and other agencies, has reduced polio cases by 99% and the number of countries affected from 125 to 4. We are now involved in some extremely difficult parts of these countries so the expense of finishing the job has accelerated. In addition to polio eradication efforts, millions of people around the globe have a better quality of life due to the tireless and diverse efforts of Rotarians.
